What is Apple CarPlay?

Apple CarPlay puts your iPhone's most useful apps on your Mazda's factory screen. Connect your phone and you get a simple, driving friendly version of the apps you already use every day: Apple Maps, Google Maps or Waze for navigation with live traffic, Spotify and Apple Music for music and podcasts, plus your calls and messages, all controlled from the screen, the jog wheel or the voice button on your steering wheel. Siri can read your texts aloud and type your replies, so your phone stays in your pocket the whole drive.

It's made by Apple, it's free to use with no subscription, and because everything is hands free, it's safer too, with no touching your phone while driving and no risk of a phone fine. Android Auto is the same idea for Android phones, made by Google, and this kit gives you both, so every driver in the household is covered.

How do I know if my Mazda is compatible?

This kit fits every Mazda released with the MZD Connect system. Check the compatibility section at the top of this page and compare your screen to the example screens under each model. If your Mazda has the MZD Connect system, it's compatible, whichever model you have.

How long does the install take?

Even for beginners, the hardware on most Mazda models can be upgraded in less than an hour. Our video tutorials are extremely in-depth and walk you through every step slowly, and our live chat is available in the customer portal to answer questions during your install. If the software on your Mazda Connect system is below version 70.00.324, you'll need to update your software first. This takes an additional 30-45 minutes. An update USB is included in our kit with every order. To check your software version, go to system settings, and check version information.

What tools do I need?

Basic hand tools you likely already own. For most Mazda models that's a screwdriver, a 10mm socket and pliers. No specialty tools required. NOTE: tools are not included in our kit.

Can I view the tutorial videos before purchasing?

We completely understand wanting to see our videos before buying. Our install tutorial videos are the most comprehensive videos available, and they combine thousands of hours of real-world experience to be beginner friendly as possible. We treat them as proprietary content included exclusively with your purchase. Our videos really make the process easy and free from guesswork. Does the wireless version also support wired CarPlay?

Yes. The wireless version includes full wired capability too, so you can always plug in a cable when you prefer. You get the best of both worlds.

Is there a USB-C version available?

No, and that's a deliberate choice. In our practical experience, USB-C connectors have inferior longevity and reliability in automotive applications compared to USB-A, so we only make a USB-A version.

My Mazda's screen isn't a touchscreen. Does that matter?

Not at all. CarPlay is fully controlled with the centre jog wheel, and once installed you also unlock Siri through the voice button on your steering wheel, which makes everything easy. Mazda actually disables the touchscreen above 15 km/h as a safety feature anyway, so the jog wheel is how CarPlay is used most of the time regardless. Having a non-functioning touchscreen does not complicate the installation process either. The touch screens inside of these Mazdas (especially in earlier models) are prone to failure over time.

Does Android Auto work on the touchscreen?

Android Auto runs through the central rotary dial rather than the touchscreen. This is a limit in Mazda's own software that affects every Mazda Connect system upgrade, not just ours. Apple CarPlay works with the touchscreen while the car is stationary.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

This kit installs CarPlay into your existing factory MZD Connect screen. Our kit does NOT include a replacement screen.

Touch screen functionality is not available for Android Auto. This is a limitation baked into Mazda's own software, not our kit. Apple CarPlay is not affected.
